A: Pours an opaque yet still clear extremely dark cola brown approaching jet black in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate dark chestnut brown + garnet red + amber colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall sudsy foamy tan head that slowly reduces to a large patch of mottled very thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of vanilla over the top of moderate aromas of roasty + caramel malts with a moderate amount of lactose sweetness. Very light aromas of earthy hops.
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of roasty + caramel malts with a moderate amount of lactose sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of vanilla. Finally there are light flavors of earthy hops. There is a light to moderate amount of roasty/earthy bitterness which slowly fades away leaving light to moderate lingering sweet vanilla flavors.
M: Medium to full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth.
O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a pleasantly smooth mouthfeel. Enjoyable with just shy of strong but enjoyable vanilla with a moderate amount of sweetness over a well constructed base stout. Perfect on this chilly May evening here in NC.
