a clean and sturdy red ale here, a style it seems like my wife has been getting more and more into lately, ordering them in all forms with increasing frequency. never been a huge fan myself, but i was impressed with this one, it has just enough hops to keep it interesting and faster finishing than most, almost like a red pale ale, some light pine to it and decent bitterness at the end. smooth malt complexion without a ton of caramelized or long boiled grain richness, its cleaner than that, sure its got some warming baked character, but there isnt a whole lot of richness to this, its fuller but on the drier side for the style, and very well balanced. the color glows radiant amber, it holds its head, and its obviously very fresh. some light metallic character in the finish, which i also noticed in their pale, but it seems to keep this grounded and even brisk for the style, intentional or not. i like the extra hops, the hints of spruce and orange from them, and i like this being as bold as it is but at a modest alcohol strength, something these guys seem to have pretty well dialed in across a number of styles. a distinctive and well made red here.
