unique offering in the summer seasonal space, to me sort of a combination of styles, wheat based but also yeasty, almost a hefeweizen type, but clearer, but not crystal clear, hence not a krystalweiss, and its also fruited, grapefruit, orange, and lemon peel, unique anyway, not totally dialed, but interesting, low alcohol, wheat forward still, and i think its a little something different for this time of year, neat to see some of these more ambitious worthy beers of late too! this is rusty orange colored and a little short on the head and the carbonation, especially for a wheat beer like this that i want to be effervescent. the nose is brassy and tinny a little bit, with a honey note, some cooked pear and apple from the yeast, white pepper, mandarin and lemon, less of the grapefruit, not really getting pithy bitterness or acidity, but its bright and festive, low brow, wheaty in a pleasant earthy way. the flavor is cool, the yeast is subtle but pleasant and works well with the fruit in here, green apple, meyer lemon, tangerine, juicy but still real beery, love the wheat character, and while i think this could be more lively and perhaps better refined overall, its an unexpected beer with a lot of personality that works well in warm weather, takes the opposite approach to a lot of these which try to be so minimal, i like the layers of flavor, the modest heft of the malt, and the fact that there is so much fermentation character. easy and distinctive.
