Historical mild recipe brewed in collaboration with beer historian Ron Pattinson. Based on a recipe from Albany, NY, this XX Mild was brewed with American 6-row malt, large amounts of Flaked Corn and glucose, and a touch of black malt for a light body and nice amber colour. Hopped with US Cluster hops, this is a completely unique and refreshing beer.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a lightly hazy, medium to dark brownish orange with a fine, one finger white head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of lightly husky grainy malt, graham crackers, rye bread; lightly floral. Flavor is grainy biscuit malt, grassy hops, rye and brown bread and crackers with some mild floral and peppery notes. Medium bodied with silky moderate creaminess, nice mouth feel. My last variety of the recent series of historical mild ales from Machine House, and another interesting one. Quite malty with crackery character and some rye flavor and mild tartness, although there is apparently no rye in the malt. I'm not that familiar with Cluster hops, but they were apparently one of the most popular in the 1970s, although rarely grown now. It imparts a pleasant bitterness and nice floral character. Quite distinct flavor and a pleasure to drink. Lots of flavor density for the ABV. Looks and feels great too.

Nonic pint, on cask at the brewery.

Pours a nutty brown with a finger of head. Slightly hazy. Smell is tea, old wood, nutty sweetness.

Taste is bitter and sweet, nuts and dark bread. Bitterness has a slight orange zest character, but darker somehow. Like it's burnt orange skin maybe.

Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy. Overall, very enjoyable.
