On tap at the brewpub in Solana Beach. Dark brown, opaque in the tall tulip. Kind of a murky taste with more of the dank flavor. It makes me think of leaf mold, dark and earthy. A flash of candy flavor, but mostly an intensity of hops. The brewer says this is made with Magnum and Centennial hops, and rates it at 42 IBUs.
A very modest warmth of malt with a faint sweetness rising out of the grapefruit flavors. This is one of those beers with the special bitterness that induces salivation. A weird feeling, and not pleasing to me. Maybe this will appeal to the IPA lover, but it seems way more bitter than it needs to be, especially for the category. I'd call it a Cascadian Brown IPA.
