A Walk To Remember. Emma "Grandma" Gatewood. An Ohio native, she was the first person to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail in 1955 at the age of 67. It all started from a National Geographic article she read depicting the Appalachian Trail as beautiful, well-marked, and open-spaced with shelters waiting at the end of a day's hike. What sounded like a "lark" ended up being a much more treacherous go and an absolutely tremendous feat of hiking 2,050 miles in 146 days from Georgia to Maine. She encapsulates what it means to be legendary and her story continues to inspire people to this day.

The Cincinnati Cobra. Introducing Ezzard Charles. One of the greatest fighters ever, Ezzard Charles was crowned heavyweight champ while he smashed glass ceilings outside of the ring. Jazz musician, tailor, veteran, community activist, family man - Ezz's talents were unrivaled. His story is legendary.

In the 2023 beer advent calendar.
Legendary? In the words of Andre the GIant in Princess Bride: "I don't think that word means what you think it means."

It's piss yellow, light on flavor, and completely characterless. Have a Stoudt's Gold or a Noon Whistle Bruski beside this and you'll soon see how to make a lager that is worth celebrating.

Step aside mass marketed industrial light lager makers, MadTree is coming for your customers in a legedary way. Commemorating Cincinnati's noteworthy heros, their light lager is a beer for the people.

Pale straw and teeming with bubbles, the nearly champagne looking Legendary Lager fizzes up with a foamy cap while bringing a hop spice and a brisk breadiness to the nose. A gentle grain sweetness greets the tongue with communion wafer, cereal and dry husk.

As the sweetness dissolves effortlessly on the middle palate, the creaminess of cereal persists and provides a buffer from the floral and grassy hops. Hints of apple, lemon and melon develop into a spicy grassiness in terms of lemongrass, green tea, parsley and mint.

Light, crisp and generally refreshing, this is an all-purpose beer for the less adventurous drinker as its fades away with a low, quick and concise aftertaste.

Poured into a tall clear pint glass. Appearance is a hazy, light golden color with about a finger's worth of head.

Aroma: smells grainy and nutty. Notes of straw, little bit of yeast, cracker malt, lemon zest/juice, maybe some corn.

Taste: follows the aroma, can taste the corn more than smell it, straw is the main note. Nice little bit of lemon juice to balance the other notes. Body is medium-light.

This is probably only useful for native Cincinnatians, but the nutty taste immediately brought back memories of the "old" Hudepohl. Smell is grain and hops. Nice head. The taste carries a distinctive note of nuts. Hudy was never my favorite beer, but a 4 for nostalgia value.

I tried a pint of this off the tapper at the brewery. It poured a clear golden with very thin white ring head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had notes of grain and finishing hop. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with good grain presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.
