Redoubt Bay, south of Sitka, is a favorite fishing spot for Sockeye Salmon. Also called Red Salmon, this famous species
turns bright red and green before spawning in the summer.
Our red, also a local favorite, gets its rich color from caramel malt. A blend of four hops gives it big flavor and aroma.

Pours clear, amber in color with one inch head. Taste is toffee and sourdough bread. Medium-light bodied, moderate carbonation and slightly bitter. Makes for an average red ale. Not a bad beer, but not one I would rush to get again.

Pours a somewhat dark hazy red/brown body with a one finger off white head that dies within thirty seconds and leaves a film of a head; the aroma has some dried caramel malts, somewhat nutty as it warms, but is pretty controlled as far as the nuts that try to come out; the flavor is semi-malty through the caramel, its fairly easy on the palate, nothing obscure, but nothing extraordinary, overall this is a good American Red/Amber ale, nothing spectacular but could come back to.

I've always had this in a pint glass.
The appearance was about a dark copper/red with a one finger white foamy head. Lacing was somewhat there as its stringy and soft.
The smell had a light dry caramel maltiness with subtle nuts and a light grassy to citrus-ness to it.
The taste was mostly the same but there seemed to be some roastiness in the flavor with a bit of light bread as well.
The mouthfeel sat about a medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. The carbonation seemed good for the style and for me.
Honestly, this was just an okay beer. I think Baranof makes some better ones.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium reddish coppery amber with a two finger ivory head with good retention and lacing. Nice looking. Aroma of caramel malt and light grassy and citrus hops. Flavor of grassy bitter hops with bready and lightly caramel malt. Finishes with mild malt and light fruit. Medium bodied. A decent red ale that has hop bitterness not quite balanced by the malt body. The flavors hit all the right notes, but could use a bit more balance or malt presence in the finish. Pleasant and I look forward to trying the ales from this small brewery.
