Citrusy lager made at the Hogsback Brewery in Surrey from a trio of hops: Cascade, Tettnanger and Hersbruker. Notes of grapefruit, lychee, spices and herbs underpinned by an earthier character. This range of beers is named after the secret symbolic code used by vagrants who rode the rails in Depression-era America. The symbol on this bright orange lager can, for example, means ‘a good place to hang out’.

A: Pours a relatively clear medium golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and faint brassy + copper + bright yellow colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall sudsy foamy off-white head that reduces to a large patch of slightly mottled very thin film covering approximately 90% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of cereal grain + slightly toasted malts with a light amount of grainy sweetness and a moderate aromas of lager yeast. Light to moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit, spicy, earthy, and floral hops.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of cereal grain + slightly toasted malts with a light amount of grainy sweetness. That is followed by a just shy of moderate flavor of lager yeast. Finally there is a light to moderate flavor of citrus/grapefruit, spicy, earthy, and floral hops which impart a slightly heavier than light amounts of bitterness which fades away fairly slowly.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Relatively clean finish.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol. Refreshing but overall not a beer that I would want to have again - it almost tasted like the hops being used were past their prime.
