Similar to a Marzen only lighter in color, slightly more bitter, and lighter bodied. This is typically the beer of choice in Munich during Oktoberfest. Its darker, maltier brother Marzen is more popular here in the U.S. Aromas of toasted, honey malt and light floral hops. Honey and toast malt flavors, with a light bitterness. Medium bodied that finished clean and dry. Pours a clear deep yellow with a white head.
6.1 SRM - 25 IBU
Malt - German Pilsner and Munich
Hops - German Perle and Tettnang
Yeast - German Lager

At the brewery, pours a kind of clear bright golden amber, just a little crown of head, no retention. Nose: honey malt, mild floral and herbal hops. Simple but strong. Taste pretty much follows: lots of honey, but it isn’t overly sweet… maybe because the hops balance things out. The floral notes are interesting but a little hard to pin down - kind of earthy. Body is fairly full, without being heavy. Carb is middling. Just a touch of lively zippiness, then finishes with some sweet honey. Flavors are interesting and outside the normal range that I went in expecting. I’m not a big fan of honeyed malt, tho.
