Got this one from Derik at this summer’s party. Cheers!
From a 355ml can into a snifter
Stout with sweet cherry puree, cacao husks, lactose sugar and vanilla
APPEARANCE: A clear dark brown pour yields a small, medium looking, light tan head with good retention. Black body with no real carbonation evident. Head fades to a full wisp cap which remains the whole way down, leaving some good lacing on the glass as it empties. Good looking.
SMELL: Roasted notes, dark chocolate, vanilla and cherry notes on the nose. Decent strength.
TASTE: Cherry flavors, chocolate and vanilla, with some roasted character at the swallow. A touch of tartness as well. Medium finish of some tart cherry, chocolate and sweet vanilla, roasted flavors and some bitter coffee lingers on the palate. Okay.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down okay and finishes a bit dry for the style. Some bitterness lingers.
OVERALL: Okay. The tartness is done well here but overall, the flavor isn’t quite as forthcoming as it could have been. There’s some enjoyable stuff going on here but it’s not quite as impressive as it wants to be. Thanks again, Derik! Always great to see you guys every summer.
