This West Coast Style IPA features our hop of choice (which will rotate every month). One single hop that we utilize to the max. This is our single hop series and this month (December 2015) we are featuring Galaxy hops.

Delicious west coast IPA. Very similar to a Nelson with different citrus hints.

Type: 32-oz. growler
Glass: Modern Times pint glass
From: Alpine Beer Company (Brewery) in Alpine, Calif.
Price: $7.50 (I think)
Purchased: Dec. 11, 2015
Consumed: Dec. 11, 2015
Misc.: Released Dec. 8, 2015
Poured a golden, pale, hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy white head. Just a few bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Average amount of sporadic spotty lacing on the sides of the glass. Average-to-below average retention. (Sight - 3.75)
I’m not a big Galaxy hop fan, so not sure why I got a crowler of this. Anyway, smelled a pleasant whiff of Galaxy hops, Citra hops, floral hops, orange blossom, cantaloupe and earthy orange rind. (Smell - 4.25)
Taste nowhere as good as the nose. Got Galaxy hops, bitter soapy notes, earthy tangerine rind, cantaloupe and faint orange blossom. (Taste - 3.50)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. (Feel - 3.50)
I get the premise with these single-hop beers, but this one just did not work. It needed some help. Bummed I got a crowler of it. (Overall - 3.50)

On tap at the brew pub, served in a pint.
Hazy orange-tan appearance, a sticky, fluffy head leaves a trail of lacing.
The nose is of citrus pith, tea, and honey sweetness, supported by a floral undertone.
More pronounced on the palate, with plenty of tropical nuances and that signature Alpine hop-profile. Hops are aggressive and bitter and piney at first, quickly balanced by honey-sweetness my hat allows a lot of tasty layers and complexion come through.
This is Alpine's version of single-hop series, in the vein of Hop Showers from Noble Ale. So far, so good.
