Ichabod is our fall-time seasonal offering, which changes in style almost yearly. While the style changes, the focus on pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg stays the same. This year we brewed an ESB (extra special bitter). Traditional ESBs have a good balance between malt sweetness and hop bitterness. While the hop presence is moderate, the malty sweetness creates a good platform for the pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg to be the main performers. It’s like liquid pumpkin pie.

Misc.: No born on date on the bottle

Had been wanting to try this since it came out, but now that I don’t live in Alpine anymore it’s really hard to go out there. Had my wife pick up a bottle on her way out to drop some off at storage. Hoping it is somewhat decent.

Poured a copper-to-reddish brown amber clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of fizzy off-white head. A few bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Bad, watery lacing. Poor retention. (Sight - 3.00)

Smelled the usual suspects, but not overwhelming and/or fake. Got nutmeg, pumpkin, cinnamon, allspice, pumpkin pie, toasty malts and cinnamon stick. (Smell - 4.25)

First thought on the taste was this was good. More spicy than the nose, but still not overwhelming. Got cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, pumpkin pie, toasty malts, slight bitter earthy malts, a touch of peppery spice and a touch of toasted toffee. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.25)

Liked this one for a pumpkin ale. May have slightly underrated it. (Overall - 4.00)
