Type: 32-oz. growler
Glass: Clear 14.75-oz. porter/stout tulip
From: Alpine Beer Company in Alpine, Calif.
Price: $7.50 (I think)
Purchased: April 13, 2017
Consumed: April 15, 2017
Reviewed as: American Porter
Misc.: Growled April 13, 2017
Wife picked up a 32-oz. growler of this (along with HFS and Singled Out - Simcoe). One of the rare Alpine beers I didn’t know anything about. Going into it with no knowledge about it in terms of ratings (Beer Advocate or Untappd) or what it’s all about.
Poured a very dark, almost black color with two fingers of frothy tan head. Just a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Excellent spiderweb lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled cocoa, brown bread, rye spices, milk chocolate and nutty malts. (Smell - 3.75)
Taste followed the nose for the most part. Got cocoa, brown bread, spicy rye, semi-dark chocolate milk, menthol, herbal, nutty malts, bitter anise and semi-char wood. (Taste - 4.00)
Full body. Sticky texture. Lively carbonation. Long, spicy finish. (Feel - 3.75)
This was a really good porter. I probably overrated it just a tad, but it was good. (Overall - 4.00)
