An ancient Grand Marnier barrel filled with glorious golden Barley Wine lay dormant in a magical forest forgotten by time. Tales of its existence reached intrepid brewer Gordon McKenzie in the year 2015 who then discovered the legendary barrel and brought it into captivity.
Honey and orange peel have added a glorious edge to this Barley Wine. Come one, come all, enjoy the fruits of a very long and very forgotten journey.

330ml bottle bought from Lighthouse Wines, Jordanstown...
Poured a hazy amber orange colour. Creamy head poured small but quite thick then faded very quickly to light wispy covering with thicker edging... no carbonation at all... some light lines of lacing...
Aroma - Sweet floral honey followed by orange peel and pear fruitiness, marmalade, spicy dried boozy fruits (raisins, figs), light tobacco, oaky traces lightly roasted nuts, pine needles, herbal notes, some cardboard traces, hints of rum, some rye
Taste - Overripe boozy fruits (bitter oranges, apples, pears), some citrus hops, spicy notes, also some dried dark fruits, warming and maybe slightly harsh alcohol, some sweet caramel and honey, faint medicinal traces, light vanilla, mint
M&D - Pretty sharp and dry... full bodied... a bit too boozy to be very drinkable
Overall - A pretty good Barleywine but one that could definitely do with a little age to mellow things out... still recommended though
