The first time we brewed using Vermont yeast it was to produce the best possible character for Love of Work – a beer originally brewed in Vermont with Hill Farmstead. The yeast has gone on to become a big part of what we do, we now use our own unique house strain in the likes of Soundwave to provide glorious peach and apricot notes which complement the hops. Vermont Tea Party is a celebration of the yeast and an evolution of Love of Work. We always loved the citrus notes that the Earl Grey Tea brought into the equation, and we’re highlighting that further with the addition of Lemon Zest. We’ve also tweaked the recipe to offer even cleaner bergamot, citrus and grassy hop notes with Chinook, Citra, Equinox and Amarillo all in the mix. Our first brew of the loose leaf pale will be available on cask and keg.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of May 2017, so just out of date. Picked up a while back from Trembling Madness in York. Described as a pale ale brewed with earl grey tea, lemon zest and Vermont yeast (acquired from Hill Farmstead).

A: Poured into an IPA glass. Bottle conditioned. A rich golden-amber hue with some floating sediment and truly insane levels of carbonation. Yields a massive head of fluffy white foam that lasts for a while before slowly reducing to a thick surface layer. Nice lacing.

S: Aroma of fruity hops with hints of citrus, tea, floral notes, grass/hay, subtle tropical fruit, earthy yeast and pale malt. Pleasantly understated.

T: Tastes of delicate aromatic hops and tea, with notes of mild citrus, floral hints, grass/hay, early grey tea, earthy yeast and subtle pale malt. Lightly astringent, with a restrained bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with lively carbonation and decent body. Aftertaste of bitter stewed hops/tea, tannins, earthy yeast and a faint aromatic twang.

O: Pretty good, with a well-judged blend of ingredients. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour offer citrus, tea, earthy yeast and floral notes. Body is alright for the style. I suspect this beer has faded a bit due to age, but the citrus and tea still make themselves felt. A solid effort from a talented brewery.

Slightly hazy peach color with off-white head. Aroma is really fruity but also floral with elderflowers and roses. Taste is quite hoppy up-front. Floral with nice tea notes, bergamot and quite bitter overall, especially the finish. Light body with medium carbonation. A really interesting, aromatic ale with high drinkability.
