i like what the ginger contributes to this a whole lot. i thought the version without it was almost too chocolate forward, desserty, and sugary. this is still real decadent and sweet, and a small dose is plenty, but the spicy fresh ginger comes through, it doesnt smell or taste baked or anything like a cake, it tastes natural like the root itself, and it cuts the heaviest elements of this really nicely. it still has a cool spice profile, and the wood element remains as well. the bitterness of the dark chocolate seems to brought up a little more by the ginger spice and the beer seems more balanced overall as a result. i like the bit of cinnamon i can get in here, and maybe some anise or allspice or something too, autumnal but still kind of tropical at the same time. huge chocolate profile, sweet still too, and with some molasses or brown sugar running through it. a ton of body, thick and syrupy and dense, and about as intensely flavored as can be, which i have come to expect from siren. a few sips of this is really nice, super interesting, and i think preferable to the original, at least for me, the ginger really adds a lot, but i could not drink very much of this one at all, even with the modest abv...
