L- Talk about 'engine oil'. I raised the pour at the end to 15Cm high, the stream of liquid was an unbroken column, *zero* splashing and zero head. Jet black.
S- Some hints of wine, is this aged in brandy barrels? [yet to read lable]. The smell is quite pungent, but liquor leads heavily.
T- Viscous to sip. Wine/brandy returns with a vengeance leaving a loud zing across my lips and palate. That hard-liquor aspect dominates, in fact alas over-dominates IMV. The flavour is SO pungent the taste leaves a resonating shadow of still pungent cocoa even 30+ seconds after swallowing. It's waaaay OTT for me, I can't rate this well.
F- It is viscous and hugely rich. The seriously intense flavour+ABV% save it from being entirely OTT-rich, but jeez you can't rush this beast.
O- I've had beers a few % higher ABV% than this one, yet this is surely one of the top-5 (of 1600 to date) most seriously pungent beers I've reviewed. I picked this for my '''landmark''' rating but now wish I'd picked something a bit more refined. The ABV% is clear to see, with the blaring liquor facet plus the reeeally intense taste. Well it's quite something to experience, that they can even brew beer like this. I can finish it but it's way OTT to me, not one I'd buy again.
375ml bottle £9.75 Bottled: Nov-2020 Bought from TremblingMadness/York as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
---Having written the rating and scored it I'll now read the lable for the first time to see if it clues what this beast is. 'Contains: Orange zest, Barley, Wheat, Oats, Lactose, Oak...'. Hmmm how does a beer contain oak? ... Neither my wife nor I (blind-tasted) registered orange at all, most unusual.
