Blind-tasted except for the beer's name, ABV% and brewery. Haven't read the lable (yet!)...
L- Gawd, not a thing of beauty, it's like red-brown pond-water and the coin-sized patch of bubbles was gone in literally 1 second. And this is my trusted nucleated glass. 8.6% doesn't seem high enough to lead to the loss of physical surface-tension of the beer such that it loses ability to sustain any foam at all... hmmm.
S- Liquor and bright/sour fruit, I thought it's plum/cherry, but a following almond/marzipan note suggests cherry to me.
T- OMTG!! It's sour as flippin' 'ell!! First sip of beer for me today; just for MAX impact. HUGELY sour and if that's not enough it's has a blunt sour+hoppy/dry lick into the finish. It's times like this that I genuinely ask myself if I think I'll be able to finish it.... hmmm.
F- Sharp/sour/bitter-dry on the palate. No taste/feel of ABV% at all that's just swamped under it's blistering taste.
O- Good grief, what is this beer and who drinks this style? Now, I will say I can find some of the hop-blasting hipster beers [DIPAs/TIPAs etc] unbalanced and OTT to the point of finding *some* simply undrinkable but I honestly think this is a far greater challenge to the beer-drinking public's tastes. Nearing the end of the glass the mega-impact of this is toning down but I still would NOT wish to drink it again, even if given one.
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the bottle lables to see what I missed! ==> 'Dark cherry sour', yeah NO kidding! 'cherries and citrus zest', right. 'Bourbon and port barrel aged', port makes some sense, bourbon was lost on me/swamped. 'The natural acidity of the beer is accentuated by...' etc. 'Aged 36 months'. BB: 01/08/2023 Gyle: 81227.
375ml bottle £7 Bought directly from Siren as part of a pick-your own consignment to London.
