Blind-tasted except for the beer's name, ABV% and brewery/country, lable as yet un-read.
L- I've had this with these high-end Sirens, they resemble a Long-Island Iced Tea; dark hazy pond-water with as near as matters zero bubbles that hit the surface sticking around. There is a patch the size of a 1p coin, but it IS a nucleated glass and that patch is right above the n-spot. I suspect it's due to the beefy ABV% that the beer loses it's ability, it's surface-tension, to retain foam. Anyway, not a good looking proposition but it's a 10.6% Siren 'exotic' so all might yet be completely forgiven hehe...
S- Whisky, BIG-time! Absolutely clear as a bell. Sometimes I can struggle to differentiate rum vs brandy vs whisky etc., but simple this time. That dominates things almost completely, but I also get hints of timber barrel.
T- OMTG boom! Rich, big whisky, sweet notes, over-sweet for me, almost like it has a sugary/syrupy aspect. The whisky is too big for me too, really shouty!, it and the sweetness lack any subtlety and together = almost all the taste. There is a minor timber note, but I'm struggling to get anything I'd call 'beer-like' here.
F- 'Big', over-rich, the beer almost has a viscosity which I imagine is sugar. CO2 in the mouth is very very low.
O- Hugely disappointing IMHO. I really do not like sounding negative but I feel I have to be completely honest too. I imagine if you took a 330ml glass of Coca Cola (original/sugared) and added a double shot of whisky and perhaps 6 cubes of sugar that it might taste very similar to this.
Good luck to others, this just happens to be a long way from my kind of thing. I wish you a much better experience!
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the bottle lables to see what I missed! ==> Bourbon barrel aged. Other things, rye IPA, orange zest etc but none of those came through at all to me...
330ml bottle £10 - yes, really. Bottled: 21/01/2021 Bought directly from Siren as part of a pick-your own consignment to London.
