Death by Chocolate Cake. What would happen if we took one of the nation’s best loved, super-indulgent desserts for inspiration, and applied it to our most indulgent beer? Even more cacao nibs, even more cacao husks, even more lactose, even more wood. It’s doubled down and ramped up to imperial strength. New this year is the addition of Amburana wood. These spicy, fragrant spirals have imparted all kinds of flavours, not dissimilar to the complexity of tonka beans, making the beer a truly unique experience.

Pours a deep black with a tan head. From a can the head was small and faded quickly. Nice aromas of chocolate and spice. It has a dense mouthfeel that coats the throat on the way down. Very balanced, not too sweet. Really enjoyable to drink with a warm booziness that complements the cold months.

Clear, dark brown (near black) pour, appears black and opaque in the glass; fairly thick, frothy head, long lasting, khaki colored. Nicely balanced aroma; cocoa; bitter, dark chocolate; spicy notes like cinnamon. The taste comes across flavorful and robust; rich milk chocolate; cinnamon-like spiciness; anise; a touch whiskey; dark roasted grains. Heavy body; dense and viscous; slippery; some boozy warmth.
Any beer using amburana wood is a must-try for me. I'm glad I took the time to read the adjuncts listed on the can. I have no idea what cypress is like for this beer, but the cacao and amburana wood certainly make their presence known. This beer is pure joy to sip. Rich and complex.

Imperial stout looking drink. Tan head. Smells like chocolate wood, very woody spice. Taste has a lingering woody ashy, dry aspect to it. Quite nice, rich mouthfeel. Not nearly as sweet as expected. Good stuff
