Dark golden amber body that's more murky than anything else. Looks like it hides secrets. Not the colloidal craze of the day, but dirty. No, derrty. Finger or so of foamy white, settles in to a generous furry cuff. Moderate lacing traces the speed of disappearance of the liquid.
Nose is a little bit muddled with some definite earthy hops, some verdant vinousness, and a hint of grainy malts.
At first blush this tastes like an old old school IPA. Rough earthy grains with pine and earth. As it warms, it grows on me. The milieu begins to focus in and paint a more concise picture of those same themes. The grains fall back and the hops become more prominent and gain depth. Still trending towards the earthy side of the hops, still with the pinely bitter backing, a thin veneer of almost floral sweetness gives some lift above the rest, like nasturtium with the peppery kick turned way down. Herbacious. Finish carries this theme and props up the sappy bitterness on the back of the tongue.
Decent mid weight body with good carbonation. Getting to the bottom of the crowler there's a lot of little sawdust floaties that I'm guessing are leftover bits of hops used to dry hop? Is that how that works?
Overall a decent old school IPA. Groovy.
