a well made if unexciting wit here, was hoping for a little more on the yeast side, even a little funk, but apparently they have moved the more fermentation forward stuff over to their sister brewery, sovereign, which is darn cool as well, so this is pretty straight forward. a little muted on the luster, hazy, even sedimented from the tap, but with a wonderfully high and airy white head, the top portion looks more refined than the bottom. the nose is white pepper, toasted coriander, and a mix of green apples and green pears, more estery than many of these, not as subtle or unique as the best belgian examples of the style, but well beyond what i consider to the the american brewer average, which i dig. the wheat is fuller bodied and a little nutty to me, never sweet. it tastes as yeast forward as it smells, warms up with a little green grape and orange character, somewhat spicy to close, not as fast finishing and refreshing as the style can be, but the flavors are solid. this does not rank among my favorite beers from standard, but it one of my first that isnt a saison type or wild beer. good effort, could use some fine tuning.
