Dark amber, nearly brown body; dense and creamy head. Excellent smoked aroma, not too strong; bold but not overpowering. Nice blend of mild smoke and light caramel malt flavors; nicely balanced hop bitterness offsets the smoke flavor.
This beer's aroma closely resembles an Aecht Schlenkela smoked beer, so props with that. This beer was smoked with hazelnut shells and not beechwood, so go figure with that. Overall, this beer delivers a mild smoke presence. It balances nicely with the gently sweet malt base and has just enough hop bitterness to round out the beer's complexity. Nicely done.
