a hazy amber gold body pours with a fluffy active off-white head that caps at a finger and a half and has moderately low retention. it leaves very little lacing as it settles to a thin bubble halo with a murky cap.
aroma is sweet, herbal, with a little citrus lemon/line spritz
taste is hooooooly mess it's pizza. like margherita. something passing for lush, sweet tomato leads the charge with a dash of salt before basil and parsley kick in with an herbal earthy low-grade bitterness, and a honeyed malt backbone keeps the whole thing even. WILD. there is a salinity to it, along with a near-oiliness. there is a near-lactose type undertone that I can't quite nail, or maybe it's imagined.
mouthfeel is moderately low carbonation with a medium-light body that goes smoothly, with occasional salinity and oiliness. finishes herbal bittersweet. the feel is way out there, yo, but it works.
overall:
Martin House swinging for the rafters again with this one. left field is beginning to look like their sweet spot more and more. didn't think I'd taste something close to a lush salted tomato in a beer before now. it's weird, but fantastic. I can see how less patient people could rate this so low but I personally love both novelty and pizza, so this was prime for me.
I would probably not sit down and session this puppy unless it was a themed party or I felt particularly bored, but being a one-off to share with friends for the novelty would be sublime.
I think I initially expected something akin to an IPA without getting the honor of the title. this was not that at all, but it's in the same theme park.
