Thanks to Mike for bringing by a growler of this stuff. First brew I've had from this place, and I appreciate anything with coconut! It pours a dark-ass, swampy, lagoon brown color, completely opaque and hazy and wretched looking. Barely any head, just a still, thin, grey collar that outlines the beer. A little lighter hued and less active than I'd expect from a porter, it's more like an ugly duckling brown ale if anything.

Thankfully, the aroma is much more satisfying than the look. Moderate waves of coconut take over; sweet and borderline sugary with a mild nuttiness and hefty vanilla swarm that laces in and out gracefully. Very mild cocoa powder in the final moments, finally revealing the "porter" aspect of the brew. Not quite enough chocolate malt to be totally reminiscent of an Almond Joy bar, but I'm loving the sweet coconut overload - right in my wheelhouse.

The taste follows up with more and more intense coconut flavors; mildly artificial, yet still pleasing and seductively sweet. Again, more vanilla notes trail behind with a light touch of nuts and solid maltiness. Warmth brings forth a bit more roasted malts, though it never approaches brash or bittering levels. Cocoa powder covered coconut milk, sweet and porter-y, all up in the finish. The body is also a little thin and watery compared to the top notch porters of the world, so that could use a little fixing; medium carbonation, slick and wispy mouth feel.

Hadn't heard of "Our Brewing" before today, but I'm actually somewhat impressed with the Coconut Porter. It's something that could wear on your palate after a while, but the 12 or so ounces that I had really hit the spot. With some refinement, like a thicker, creamier body and just a bit more roasted malt, this could easily be an amazing beer. Thanks again to Mike for splitting open the growler!
