With a dark mahogany color, it starts out sweet, with phynols surround the thick boozey malt flavors with some bubblegum. The mouthfeel is great with the pleasant carbonation, with a boozey dark fruit aftertaste in the end. However, as it gets warmer, it starts to get staggeringly hoppy, albeit turning into a more pleasant version of Stone’s Arrogant Bastard ale. In the meantime, the aroma is a phenolly malt with a splash of pithy grapefruit when warm. It’s very boozy for the style, and the stark bitterness later starts to throw off the beer, almost in Claymore and Sleigh’r territory from Great Divide Brewing and Ninkasi Brewing, respectively. Therefore, I recommend the Quadrupel from La Trappe. Make sure to leave the beer open for a few minutes to reduce the ridiculous carbonation before you fully enjoy the beer.

Lovely dark chestnut brown color in the tall Petrus goblet. Flavor is just plain musty, though in an interesting way. Doesn't taste very alcoholic. Just slightly sweet, but the body is plenty malty. Dry finish, and more of the Belgian yeast flavor than typical Quads, I would say. Aroma of straw and roasted grain. Bitterish aftertaste. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Barons market on West Point Loma.

On tap at the brewery taproom In San Diego. Disclaimer: I'm not a fan of beets which (surprisngly) are used in this quad and show up in both the aroma and the flavor.
Pours deep brown with a decent beige head that leaves some patterned sticky lace on the glass.
Aroma: beet juice with a trace of pickled beets; dark ripe fruits. spicy yeast.
Flavor: mildly sweet. Beet juice; over-ripe fruits.
O: ABV partially hidden. Distinctive but beware the beets.
