Strong ale inspired by traditional English bitters. Aged for several months in fine Islay Scotch barrels. This beer was produced to honor the tremendous landscape of Isle of Skye and a tremendous man who lives there.

750ml bottle, with a bottling date of '01.02.17'. Bottle number 286 of 340.
Amber brown colored body, with a tint of orange. One finger of off white head upon pouring, which results in a partial cap and a strong ring. Leaves behind a few spots of lacing.
The peaty Scotch smell spreads to the nose upon opening of the bottle. Upon closer examination, the aroma is peaty, iodine, and smoky. Underneath are the roasted malts with caramel and brown sugar, along with a little licorice.
Taste has a strong overlay of peaty smoke and iodine. The smoky malt lies underneath and expresses more sweetness, caramel, and earthy flavors.
Medium plus mouth feel, and full texture. Good carbonation.
This beer requires the drinker to like peaty Islay scotch in order to enjoy. Major part of the taste profile is exactly like peaty Islay scotch whisky, but this is much less full of alcohol, and has the base flavors of an ESB. Not bitter but expressive with malt, caramel, and smoke. Rather earthy overall, and with a short lasting after taste.

Amber orange color. Off white head.

Lots of scotch whiskey. Smokey and peaty. Bready and biscuit malts with some sweetness to round things out a bit. Has a slight citrus flavor.

Smokey feel. Ends with peat. Medium bodied.

Appearance: Cloudy orange-brown, big head.

Smell: Beery grain, but mostly peat--iodine, medicinal, bit of saltiness.

Taste: Some sweetness and fruitiness from the base beer but the barrel is the star here. Big peaty flavor, smoky, earthy, iodine. Like a peaty scotch at 1/5th the alcohol level.

Overall: I had this several times on tap at the brewery and was lucky enough to get a bottle to review. On tap the peat is even stronger--it was difficult to get any taste of the base beer. However, in the bottle the base beer gives another dimension of flavor. Tastes like Laphroaig barrels to me--earthy and medicinal. Very good stuff!

On tap at the Hammerheart taproom. 10 oz. serving in a chalice.

Appearance: Color is a deep brownish amber. Moderate amount of bubbles and a slight finger of off white head that quickly fades away.

Smell: A peaty and smokey aroma with a big scent of peat and smoked malt. Big upfront barrel scent of scotch whisky with peat, oak, and wood. Malt scent of smoke, caramel, toffee, biscuit, toast, and grains with yeast. Earthy hop hints of grass. Sweet hints of brown sugar. Also some hints of leather and anise. A really nice aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a peaty and smokey malt driven taste with notes of peat and smoked malt. Big upfront barrel presence with notes of scotch whisky, peat, oak, and wood. Malt notes of smoke, biscuit, caramel, toffee, toast, and grains along with some yeast. Some earthy hop notes of grass. Also some notes of brown sugar, leather, and anise. A very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. A little boozy as expected but still smooth.

Overall: A great Barrel Aged twist on an E.S.B. Big but not overwhelming peat flavor with some nice smoke.
