16 oz. can. Pours deep brown with an ample and lasting khaki head. Laces well, too. Smells of coffee and nutty malts. A little milk chocolate. The coffee flavor is kinda stale, though. A little acidic and sharp. Malt profile is closer to burnt toast than bread or caramel. Back end is bitter and a touch acrid. Gets better as it warms, though.
Medium body. My descriptors make it sound really bad, but it isn't. It was still pleasant enough to drink and it definitely improved with some warmth.

From a 16oz can (!!!)
Appearance: Dark brown, good head.
Smell: Rich mocha aroma, I'm not a coffee guy but this smells great.
Taste: Roasty, rich coffee flavor. Nice balance of coffee and a bit of bitterness. Really good!
Overall: Hammerheart is finally canning! Hopefully one of the smokier offerings will be canned soon, but this one is one of the best coffee beers I've had.

they have taken their excellent brown ale and blended in a ton of coffee, and its awesome! a shade or two darker than the original on the pour, the coffee obviously influencing the color. the nose is heavy roast, but with all the subties of good espresso here, from dried berries to leather and licorice, amazing with the chocolate profile in the malt, and with the faint smoke element that still permeates a little bit here. the coffee tastes as good as it smells in here, and while the body seems quite light, the depth of flavor is enormous, a coffee and malt profile seemingly built for one another, milk chocolate meets dark cocoa nib character, while light woody smoke meets a nice low acid medium roasted bean that is as fresh and bright as can be. hints of raisin, birch, cigar, and baking chocolate, its just awesome, and the coffee really leads the way, its not in the background at all! overall a supremely flavorful dark beer that is also really drinkable, partially because the flavor is so interesting and appealing that i cant set my glass down, but also partially because they somehow kept the alcohol and body down. this is brilliant stuff, i reckon an improvement over the already delicious original!

750 ml mini growler from the brewery. Poured into a Hammerheart tulip glass.
Appearance: Pours a dark blackish brown. Moderate amount of bubbles and a solid finger of tan head that settles into a thin creamy layer.
Smell: A roasty and toasty malt forward aroma with a scent of coffee, chocolate, and biscuit. Big upfront scent of coffee beans. Malt scent of biscuit, chocolate, toast, grains, nuts, and caramel with some yeast. Light hints of earthy hops. A really nice roasty aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a roasty and toasty malt driven taste with notes of coffee, chocolate, and biscuit. Big taste of coffee beans. Toasted malt notes of biscuit, toast, chocolate, nuts, caramel, and grains along with some yeast. A little bit of earthy hop bitterness. A very good taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Drying and smooth.
Overall: A really good variant on Hokan's Brown Ale. Big coffee presence.
