A very solid imperial stout from Altamont. Perfectly dark pour with a bit of foam lacing at the top. Dark chocolatty perfect balance of bitter and sweet.

16oz can with no visible date. Opened 5-24-20.
1" tan head, good retention and sits at 1/4".
Black stout with a dark brown edge towards the bottom. Alternating sheets of lace and spotty lace patterns.
Smooth, rich coffee with cream. Bakers cocoa. Earthy, roasted malts.
Bread crust / cookie dough batter. Oatmeal. Brown sugar.
Mild coffee, roasted malt bitterness, chocolate. Very nice balance with smooth and rich flavor throughout.
Full body with a smooth, velvety mouthfeel. Rich and roasty long semi-sweet finish.
Highly drinkable at 8.7%, tasty beer.
Very Good.

16oz can served in a pint glass. Bought it a couple weeks ago in San Jose. Dated 12/18/19.
Pours dark brown with a small head and little carbonation. Smell is rich chocolate and coffee and yeast.
Taste is more coffee than chocolate, strong bitter finish. Moderate sweetness.
Mouthfeel is surprisingly light but somewhat sticky. Overall, nice beer.

Can to snifter. Bottom of the can stamped 12/18/20
The appearance was a dark brown color in the pour but yielded more of darker brown close to black color in the glass. Barely any head and what was there seemed to quickly subsiding. No lace.
The aroma had a full on mocha sweet and roasty blend of coffee, dark chocolate and milk chocolate. Wafer, dark toast, roasted malts and whiff of oatmeal round out the edges.
The flavor leaned towards the toasty oatmeal to coffee/mocha gentle leanings while providing a sly kiss of ashy bitter/slight char burnt ends. Seems to be the same mostly in the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Plenty of dryness crisping up a subtle roasty coffee burnt quality. Some oatmeal smoothness rolls a touch of the roasty coffee ashy/char character out just a smidgeon. Slight earthy and a kind sticky sort of finish with some sweet roast to it.
Overall, imperial oatmeal stout done up in a unique American sort of way, yes, that's what I would call this one. It's one I would come back to.

Canned 12/18/18, consumed 1/13/19
16oz. Nitro can
Poured pitch black with a huge, thick, creamy tan nitro head, great retention, tons and tons of thick lacing.
Aroma is primarily of dark roasted coffee and dark chocolate, also pick up notes of roasted malts.
Taste is more malt-forward, coffee and chocolate not as pronounced and defined, everything is a bit sweet.
Feel is smooth, creamy, silky, but disappointingly thin. Nearly no carbonation which I still don't know to be a good trade-off for nitro creaminess.
Overall, I'm interested to try the non-nitro version of this because I think it would be next level with a much thicker and carbonated feel. Solid nitro stout as it is.

Bottle of unknown age (roughly 2 months from purchase) into a tulip glass.
L: Pours jet black with 2+ fingers of medium density pillowy khaki head with great retention and left some spotted lacing.
S: Nose is chocolate dominant, with subtle coffee undertones. Coffee gains prominence as the beer warms.
T: Follows the nose to a good degree, but more balanced chocolate and coffee, picking up some roasted malt as well. Finishes with mild bitterness, coffee aspect lingers on the palate a bit.
F: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, creamy on the tongue with a silky finish. Just the slightest hint of tongue burn, likely from the ABV.
O: A very nice breakfast stout, hides the ABV well, great mouthfeel. Will definitely repeat.
