real cool blend here, this is what these guys do best i reckon, the funky stuff, and the label here is wild, not sure what im even looking at, but its cool, and seems to work for a beer that doesnt really fit neatly into any style category. a blend of a barrel aged brett lager and a couple of saisons, pretty cool stuff, super light, and amazingly well bottle conditioned. when we pop the cap the bretty foam rises above the neck but holds its shape well enough not to spill down the sides. when we pour it its crystal clear though to the bottom, radiant and fizzing like mad, a pretty white head on top, high shine, just stunning, and the texture rules, explosive and bone dry, awesome! this has a little bit of everything, musty brett front and center, farmy and drying, rustic but refined, old too now, some dry herbal hops, maybe noble, not really a huge part of this, but they are there in the nose pretty distinctly. the grain base seems like a pils or helles, not a whole lot of body or heft, its simple, its clean, its european, and its very well cleaned up in the final product. some subtle saison esters too, pear and white grape to me, maybe dried apricot and mango too as it sits and picks up a little grain sweetness in the center. not sure how much lager yeast i really get in aroma and flavor, and if i do, that part seems a little tired, this is way more saison than lager overall, but most especially on the ferment. i like the lightness of this though, the texture is incredible, and the level of refinement is way up there, nicely blended and conditioned. the bottled stuff from aslan is always a treat, and this unique blend does not disappoint, those expecting more familiar lager notes may not be thrilled, but i like the saison forward mix, good tang, funk, and dryness. lovely!
