There is something about a big, coffee porter that makes it one of the most alluring beers out there. Somewhere between dark brown and black, this beer exists as a beautiful achievement of the richness that only layers of chocolate and caramel malts, combined with some of Bird Rock Coffee Roaster's finest, can compel. Enjoy in front of a fireplace in the evening, or first thing in the morning to start your day.

Beautiful jet black pour with a consistency of thickness but not sludge. Small tan head 1/3" on the top quickly goes away. Solid impact of coffee in the nose. Was excited for this one.
Taste, wow, not overly acrid, roasty or bitter, but has plenty of roasted malt and coffee going for it. The mix of black and chocolate malt with the coffee that is solidly up front somehow makes for a smoother experience all the way through the drink. Hides alcohol amazingly well.
One of the best drinking imperial coffee beers out there.

Type: 12-oz. draft
Glass: Clear tulip glass
From: Saint Archer’s Brewing Company in Miramar (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $6.00
Purchased: April 24, 2016
Consumed: April 24, 2016
Misc.: N/A
Went to this place to try the Tusk & Grain Barrel Aged Blend No 01, but did not see it there until I was paying my bill. What the fuck? Had this first as a full pour and added a few tasters later. Was looking forward to this one as I really liked the basic Coffee Brown.
Poured a black color with three fingers of frothy, tan head. Great amount of spiderwweb foamy lacing. Average retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled dark roasted coffee beans, ashtray, smoky wood, bitter dark chocolate and slightly toasted toffee. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted a bit better on the tongue than the nose. More flavor here. Getting dark roasted coffee, dark dried cocoa, sugary dark toffee, roasted nuts, ashtray, smoky charred wood, bitter dark chocolate and dark fudge (Taste - 4.00)
Full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This grew on me as it warmed and went down. Like it a lot. (Overall - 4.00)
