I was at my neighborhood church's monthly Attic Treasures rummage sale & knowing my buying habits, they steered me to some beer shaker glasses that had been donated. One of them was a Jack-O Traveler & I suddenly became inspired to finally add this one to The CANQuest (tm).

From the CAN: "Quite a Refresher!"

I did some in-CAN agitation before Crack!ing the vent open since it is, at base, a Wheat Ale & I wanted to ensure suspension of the adjuncts. I went with an inverted Glug for the first time in quite a while, giving in to temptation and wanting to see what would occur. It puffed up with over a finger of dense, foamy, tawny head that quickly reduced to wisps, leaving no sign of its having existed. Color was a cloudy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose smelled quite strongly of pineapple, but also with a kind of sugary sweetness. Hmm. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but not far from it. The taste was definitely pineapple, but it was still sweeter than I would have preferred or like it might have been if they had not added other adjuncts. Fortunately, I review to style, not to personal taste & it was definitely a Fruit Beer. I did not like it quite as much as Rivertowne's Hala Kahiki, but it was still quite quaffable, Finish tended to be semi-sweet, which reduces its refreshing nature, but so be it. I'd like to try a bottle of it sometime just for CANparison purposes.

A: Pours a murky medium bright golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate bright lemon yellow colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense fizzy foamy bright white head that quickly reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of juicy tropical pineapple over the top of light aromas of caramel + wheat malts with a light hint of bubblegum.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of wheat malts with a light flavor of caramel malts and a hint of grainy sweetness. That is followed by slightly stronger than moderate flavors of juicy tropical pineapple and a hint of bubblegum. Minimal amounts of grassy hop flavors are present and fade away almost instantly leaving a hint of bitterness which fades away quickly. Light amount of lingering tropical pineapple in the finish.

M: Light to medium bodied with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp.

O: Easy to drink, refreshing, and enjoyable with well hidden alcohol and a crisp light mouthfeel. I could easily have a couple of these and the pineapple flavor + aroma is pleasant but not overpowering.

A thanks to the captain of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy, bright golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is bursting with pineapple. Taste is pineapple, malts, juicy, highly refreshing. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is one of the best shandies of have drank.

Poured from the tap into a 20 OZ mug at the Taco Mac in Atlanta, GA. The appearance is a cloudy light gold color with a thick, large white head. The aroma is pineapple and spices. The taste is pineapple with a hint of sourness. A very nice shandy.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 7/2017. Pours hazy golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy pineapple, lemon, orange, melon, citrus peel, wheat, cracker, light honey/clove, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance of pineapple/citrus fruit, light-moderate pale malt, and light fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy pineapple, lemon, orange, melon, citrus peel, wheat, cracker, light honey/clove, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal bitterness and yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of pineapple, lemon, orange, melon, citrus peel, wheat, cracker, light honey/clove, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great robustness and balance of pineapple/citrus fruit, light-moderate pale malt, and light fruity yeast flavors; with a nice malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from bitter/spiciness as well. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, fairly grainy/creamy, and slightly acidic mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.4%. Overall this is a great shandy style. All around great robustness and balance of pineapple/citrus fruit, light-moderate pale malt, and light fruity yeast flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink. Very flavorful and never watery feeling for the low ABV. A really delicious offering.

I am not a huge shandy drinker, but I have to say, this is a great shandy! This shandy has a beautiful straw yellow color, with a wonderful pineapple flavor. When I first open the bottle, I got a wonderful pineapple smell, that made me think I was on vacation in the tropics!

Well, I am not a fan the shandy so, take that into consideration if you are. This beer has a nice full mouth feel and when served in a frozen mug with a lime it is bearable. Alone, it smells like bubble gum and taste is a nasty fake pineapple flavor. It is too sweet and it definitely has a bit of a bile smell.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

Slightly turbid, and very muddy NE IPA looking yellow body. A creamy and fine soapy bubbled bleach and bright white head hits at three fingers to cap it off. Settles easily and slowly with no lacing, and to a simple finger.

Aroma is kind of strange. Bubblegum slightly, with a hint of actual spicy ginger like character. There's also a bit of bile like smell coming off this, luckily it's very small, as the fruit like character dominates. Fruit quality seems more towards orange than tropical, but has a bit tropics slightly.

Palate hits very surprisingly. Solid chewy mouthfeel and backbone, keeping a good flavor persistent. More sensing malt grain with a light sweetness of fruit juice that is definitely pineapple but not as big or as large as I expected. Muted tropics but also with a better beer like character with maybe even a poking bit of estery fruit sneaking in as well.

Not the biggest pineapple fan, and perhaps that it's more muted to me on the palate makes it more enjoyable. But if you're into pineapple and easy drinking look no further.

On-tap 1/22/2017 at Jillian’s Sports Pub & Grill in Somerset, MA, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a cloudy light gold color, with a large white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains pineapple, light caramelized malts and not much else.

T: The taste starts out sweet with sugary flavors of pineapple and citrus. Then some breadiness comes in from a thin malt character. There is very little hops presence but still a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: A little crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, this is a decent beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the pineapple flavor.

Smells just like the lemon shandy, but the taste of pineapple is phenomenal. Imagine the lemon shandy but replace it with pineapple and you have this beer. Very smooth, but only found in a variety pack here in RI. Really enjoyed it and it's a new great idea for a shandy, very well done
