Poured from a bomber bottle bought in Durham, NC.
L - Color is dark straw to light gold; clear. White head is weak and quickly fades to a ring around the glass.
S - Aromas are a mix of classic saison (crisp, grainy malt and spicy yeast) with oak, grassy hops and low levels of bourbon.
T - Flavors are of a saison with a strong punch of hops, then with bourbon barrel flavors overlaid. The hops in mid-palate are grassy and a bit piney. The saison contributes strong black pepper notes, which blend with the hops bitterness. There is also a green apple or maybe white wine note. The whiskey in the finish comes acrtoss as a bit harsh to me.
F - Medium body. Prickly, full carbonation. Slightly hot alcohol presence. Strong hops bitterness, for a saison.
o - This beer has tons of flavors and aromas, but it doesn't quite come together for me. I find the hops biterness, yeast notes and bourbon presence feed off each other to create an overly harsh impression. Interesting, but I probably wouldn't buy it again.
