Pours a light red with a khaki head that fizzes out quickly. The smell was toasty with a lot of malt and a bit of sweetness on the end. The taste was a bit more basic than I thought. Very drinkable but I found that the lack of any real pop in the beer to make it a tad forgettable. Nice mouthfeel.

"...a hybrid between a British amber ale and a German Rauchbier..."
So, I'm thinking this is an American Amber-style ale. But the brewer says cross between a British Amber Ale and German Rauchbier-Lager. Either way, the color is a nice clear amber with a thick beige head. The aroma is very mild for a smoked beer. But has some malty notes in there. Taste is definitely smokey, but more on the dank smoke than fresh smoke. Very mild bitterness.
Definitely lacking in the body/mouthfeel. It really lacks a bottom. This beer would be so much better if it had a more rounded-dense mouthfeel and body...looking for chewy, and got watery.
However, the flavor is there.
On the positive side, this beer really does have a nice smoke presence--much more than most American interpretations, which tend to fall short in the smoke dept.
Needs more work, as this is a first round for the brewer. Looking forward to a more mature batch.
