“Hefe” meaning yeast and “Weizen” meaning wheat are combined to create a light, unfiltered, and effervescent brew. This classic Summer German Hefeweizen has hints of clove and fresh bananas.

Pint can from Seapine, served in a pint glass. Beer is remarkably pale yellow, almost sickly, but nice a nice haze to it, and good amount of frothy head. REALLY pale though. Aroma is a little bit grainy but mostly mild, and luckily without a hint of banana. First sip unfortunately brings in that banana ester flavor I so strongly associated with Belgian wheat beers (or Witbiers). Not clove, banana. Ugh.
Now I recognize some may love the banana ester flavor (isoamyl acetate) but for me it is a killer. I bought a 4 pack of these and I need to buy a lemon to see if the combination is more palatable for me.
Dated 8/21/23.
10 days later, reviewing another can (from the same 4-pack), served in a weizen glass, with a drop of freshly squeezed lemon and a big chunk of peel. The oil of the lemon is so potent it does nearly eliminate the banana flavor. Of course, everything tastes like lemon now. But I do find the combination of wheat and lemon work really well together, and while this is still not an excellent hefeweizen, it's more refreshing and much less offensive. If I try this again I think I'll keep the lemon, but use only a very thin slice.

Pale golden color and cloudy with ample foam in the snifter. This is rather thin, though plenty of spritz. Very peculiar nose-- there is just a hint of banana but overwhelmed by an odd canned vegetable aroma. Crude and grainy flavor like some kind of soup. This is drinkable, but the persistent "what the heck is this" flavor is bothersome. I would not call this a very good Hefeweizen. From the 16 oz can purchased at Elizabeth Station. Julian date stamp: 23 111.

Mostly clear straw gold with a fluffy white cap. Smell has wheat with light banana and clove, and not much else. This thinness grows in the taste, those same flavors but watery, has some bubblegum on the finish. Feel is watery, bright, has some wheatiness but ultimately is weak. Better options out there

16 oz can with a stamp of 20289 which I assume is 09/28/20.
I am almost done with the first can and I have not made up my mind if I like this beer or not. Certainly not anywhere close to the best hefeweizen brewed in the USA. It is venturing into witbier territory with an almost bubblegum flavor. Looks above average and smells on point. Body and carbonation is good as well.

A decent and refreshing hefe-, follows the classic style; but not close to the masters, yet.
Bought in my seventh 2020 shipment from Tavour (maybe I should give them a rest... until 2021 !)
Seapine's hefe- has average Looks; mostly because its foam is OK and, then, evaporates in my weizen-glass. Smells have the classic banana and clove, but quite mild. Tastes are well-balanced; no ingredients pushing others out, but the yeast clearly needs more vitality for next year. In the mouth, wheat-soft and barley-refreshing; shows skill.
For my brewer review.... Seapine has lots of competition, being in one of the five urban centers of brewing (greater Chicago, Portland, Bay Area and greater Boston being the others, IMHO.) But Seapine is helping turn Seattle's old, forgotten waterfront-warehouse district into a destination. And that is worth some OA Hugs. Let's just hope that Seapine, and all of us, make it through the next few months.
12/22/20 Had the second can from Tavour with a BBQ sandwich for lunch. This hefe- worked OK to calm the mouth from the sweet/tang of the BBQ... but also didn't make the sandwich better. Possibly a stronger yeast makes this a better hefe- for the table also. Satisfied with this review, I'm keeping count over at UnTappd should I ever find this again.

Lots of banana in the nose, grainy flavor that could use a little more years bump. But better than any other local hefe I've had.

On tap at Trace. Poured a slightly hazy, straw-yellow color with a small, white head of foam. It smelled of banana, yeast and cracked wheat. Nice sweet wheat flavors with banana and spiciness.
