had this been sold to me as a belgian blonde or something, i think i would have rated it much higher. its hard to give low scores to a well made and tasty beer, but this is really lackluster as a saison. just a little but cloudy in the glass, pale blonde and with a short white head on top. served in a pint glass too, which is never flattering for a saison type in my opinion. smells loosely belgian, some herbal dryness to the yeast, a little bit of fruitiness too, white grape and apple come to mind, but its all incredibly understated, and in flavor, the yeast seems almost of little consequence, which is not how i prefer my saison. that said, the beer is dry and drinkable, with a peppery and grassy finish, a little bit of malt pils type malt character and some wheat, delicate and refreshing. this is sort of simple and americanized compared to what i usually look for in the style, but as a belgian type blonde, it hits all the marks and drinks really nicely. a bit of a confused sort of beer, but tasty enough. only my second from seapine!
