Way back in 2014, we picked out two barrels of very delicious bourbon at Four Roses. Those barrels eventually made their way all the way up to our friends at De Garde Brewing in Tillamook, Oregon, where they were both filled with liquids and promise.

Sadly, the severe deformities that made barrel #001 such a good barrel of bourbon also made it terrible for beer, and its contents were regretfully lost. Luckily, barrel #002 had a far better fate. Today, we are pleased to introduce "The TB Too," a product brought to you by extreme patience.

750 mL bottle. Pours deeper than I expected. Amber more than golden. Smells of bourbon, oak, vanilla, funk, and something like honey. Maybe a touch of oxidation, but considering how long this has been in my fridge, that's to be expected. Tastes of a caramel and honey malt flavor up front before it turns sour quickly. Almost too strong, but it has enough body and interesting components to keep it drinkable. Fruity sourness with a strong oak and bourbon flavor. Back end is all oak with a dry bitter woody finish. Medium body. Slow drinker as it's pretty intense on all fronts. It still tastes pretty good, despite that this has been sitting in the back of my fridge for... a while.

Bomber poured into a matching oversized snifter appears a clear reddish copper color with a white cap that fades slow leaving spotty lace.

The aroma on this is sour with a sort of cranberry meets dark currant aspect before noticeable oak inclusion, vanilla and vinegar.

The taste is sour as expected with a solid oakiness bringing forth some vanilla. Mid-palate has some of that previously mentioned pleasant current flavor. The finish on this has quite a sour/vinegar-like bite.

This is light in body with modest carbonation. Its tannic and sour yet has some enjoyable qualities about it for a degarde wild. I hate to be the dream crusher here but this isnt a perfect 5 beer, infact some of it ended up in my sink because the folks I shared it with didnt dig it at all. If degarde wilds are your jam though you will likely love the hell out of this.

Popped this with jtladner yesterday during a brew day. Not really into bourbon barrel aged sours, but this was great. From aroma to mouthfeel to taste, everything was on point. The beer stood up to the bourbon barrel treatment and neither overpowered the other. The beer may have started out as a golden sour, but the barrel left it's mark and it came out a beautiful deep burgundy color. Looked great in my matching glassware. Great collaboration!

FINALLY!!! waited for the weather to get reasonable for that cross country trip of this epic hype.

got the crew together, poured some of the bourbon and this magic elixir. we had high expectations but was nervous for the obvious pending dissappointment... but if a beer were to ever exceed my expectations this is it. other review's on this one lend you ro believe it is just a comical hype, but in reality this is actually a stunnING beverage. nice full body on an extremely approachable sour. the golden sour is a perfect marriage with the barrel and trevor knows his stuff and really bottled this at the sweet spot. super jazzed to have been a part of this project and happy to add a new beer to the best beers I have ever tried.
