750 ml. bottle.
Bottled 2/23.

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a one inch near fluffy white head over a light amber body with little lacing.
Head is gone fairly quickly.

Nose of a bit of nice funk and a bit of citrus and a bit of oak.

Taste of grapefruit, oak, and funk in a cheesy way.
Nice sourness with grapefruit all the way through, while finishing crisply acidic.

Feel is right on for this style of wild ale

Overall, a very well done offering from de Garde and should not be passed over by you sourheads out there!

Cheers!!

On tap, taster:
Nice fuzzy rose leaning cranberry body with a pink-tinged collar. Nose had one thing that seemed odd amidst the tangy cherry and barrel notes - a true barnyard “fertilizer soil” note (I could entertain arguments for wet barrel, but they wouldn’t convince me). I thought I might be crazy, but it persisted, although a swirl hid it with a more floral cherry note.

Taste didn’t suffer the same fate, wing lightly tart with cherries and a mildly straw-like backbone. Light linger, but fairly refreshing with more acidic than carbonated bite.

I had this on draft 9/19/23 @ the Hopleaf.

Cloudy dull orange appearance.

Small white head; no lacing remained.

Tart lemon, cracked wheat, sea salt & spring water notes in the nose.

Thin mouthfeel.

Lemon & melon flavors up front; mild sea salt & spring water notes on the finish.

Insanely easy to drink considering the style. I'd have another!

Appearance: poured a bright hazy peach color

Aroma: hints of citrus at the nose, predominantly grapefruit, some dried apricots, plus detectable funk.

Taste: Tart with just a little acidity. Mildly dry with bright earthy hops. Not a lot of fruit except a little citrus. Not overly complex but very nice approachability.

Mouthfeel: light bodied with just a little acid. Very easy sipper.

Overall: I love trying base beers without fruit added. Again, not too much depth but I love it’s simplicity. It’s 3.9% ABV, making it a very laid back easy sipper. My only regret is not buying more of these bottles.

Bottled 03/21, from the source.

A crystal clear light orange with a dense white head with good retention and lacing, sustained with effervescent carbonation, this looks great! The initial whiff is pure modern de Garde. Funky, earthy, lacto-heavy barnyard notes with wet hay, preserved lime, bitter orange, light petrichor, dried mushroom, brine. So. Much. Funk. The palate opens tart and bitter, a blend of bitter orange, preserved lemon, a moderate lactic acid bite. Dry, dusty earth, moderately umami rich mushrooms, mineral and lots of tannins are present. It's impressive how far the bitter orange and tannins go in adding structure to an otherwise very thin beer. High in carbonation, drying, bitter and mildly sour in finish. There's something very lambic-esque about the new de Garde beers and this is a particularly good expression of that.
