Lighter in color than most recent de Garde red wine grape beers, this is a reddish pink with a thin white head that falls off quickly. The nose is a blend of funk, wood, tannins and a delicate grape character. Less fruit forward than other recent de Garde red wine grape beers. In lieu of the spice and dried berry notes, there's a potent earthy funk along with a lot of oak tannins, and some grape skin tannins as well. The palate opens dry, tart with a tannic bite, the oak and grape skins lending a pucker and an almost tartaric acid bite. A deep, earthy funk complements the delicate fruit notes. Drying, tart finish. A touch of sour cherry.
