Poured into a weizen glass, the appearance was a hazy bright yellow color almost orange with a big frothy about two and a half fingers worth of white foamy head that slid off fairly quick. Spotty lace stuck nicely around the glass.
The aroma had some bubblegum sweetness up front laying down on some sweet wheat, light sweet grass, mild clove and then a touch of faint citrus at the very end which I didn't mind for me. Banana esters are fainter than expected for the style.
The flavor was mainly sweet running through the bubblegum initially and then bringing in the wheat, grass and citrus. Banana esters are there, but very faint. Clove spiciness seemed to sit a bit further back. Mild aftertaste of sweet wheat and bubblegum.
The mouthfeel was almost medium bodied with a good sessionability about it. Carbonation felt on par. ABV felt as projected. Mild smooth sweet bubblegum and sweet wheat on the finish, slight acceptable stickiness, not cloying.
Overall, with the amount of "bubblegum" coming out and the almost "transparency" in the color, I almost thought this was a krystaliweizen, but with the help of some clove and some cloudiness, I'd say the overall product does actually lean more "hefeweizen" after all. I'd have again preferably in the Summer, if available then. If anything, a little more "banana esters" would have definitely made me think this is a true German hefeweizen.
