I live in Vermont and have access to many high quality choices. This is now in the top. Hazy yellow. Thick white head. Has a melon like smell. Nice bitter aftertaste. With a little tang to it. Winner

14th Star Brewing Co. "Citranade"
16 fl. oz. can "BEST BY 04/25/2021" and sampled on 03/24/2021
$4.59 @ Kindred Spirits & Wine, Fairfield, CT

Notes via stream of consciousness: Labeled at 7.7% ABV. Geez, with a name like "Citranade" I wonder what this tastes like. It's poured a very cloudy golden body beneath a massive head of off-white foam. I'll probably have to wait a minute to take a sip as the head doesn't seem to be dropping at all. The aroma is strong with citrus, mainly orange and lemon, but also just a touch of grapefruit. The flavor is interestingly sweetish and not as citrusy as you might expect given the aroma. There are also notes of apple, guava, and peach. There's a median bitterness to it and a bit of hop bite that keeps it in check, and it finishes semi-dry as the sweet malt fades and the hop acids and citrus become more apparent and then linger gently. At this point I still have a creamy, full-surface cap on it, and there's some very nice lacing clinging to the glass. In the mouth it's medium bodied with a fine-bubbled, median carbonation. It's quite smooth and silky due to all the extra proteins. I'm guessing based on the taste that they're using both oats and wheat as well as light 2-row and maybe a bit of honey malt. I'm really quite impressed with this one. It delivers a great juicy NEIPA without going to far overboard and getting into that acidic-juiciness that basically leaves you drinking something that actually tastes like orange juice. This is a bit softer and has a wider character to it. Nicely done!

Poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a pure hazy paper orange color capped by a sustaining finger and a half's worth of white foamy head. This head slid inward beautifully while leaving a wonderful looking coat of filmy lace. Seemed to take forever until the lace tried to spider web and it did slightly.
The aroma had some sharp citrus bittersweet rind and pulp. Spectacular amounts of grapefruit juice, nice and thick. Some grassy hops, light on the white pepper.
The flavor took hold of a full bittersweet component meshing together all of the prior mentioned aromas. Clean grassy to citrusy and slight white pepper-like aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a good sipping quality about it. Nice and low carbonation. Mild finish of sticky citrus pith and white pepper.
Overall, this is a New England styled DIPA well worthy of having again.
