Poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a beautiful dark brown close to black color in the glass. The pour leaned closer to brown. The head was eggshell white with a finger's worth of head slowly dissipating to leave a slight ring and foamy stickiness all around.
The aroma had sweet to tart red raspberries up front playing with some cocoa powder and roasty coffee beans. Light dark toast tones.
The flavor moderately takes in a mostly fine balance of red raspberry sweetness to a dry sweet cocoa powdery character. Coffee tones are subtle. Aftertaste ran semi-tart with the sweet tones of the red raspberries running through very nice.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Good carbonation and ABV. The dryness of the coffee bean and cocoa helps to drown out some of the sweet and tart harshness of the red raspberries which ends up having an exceptional balance of red raspberries and coffee roastiness in the finish.
Overall, what an absolutely amazing imperial stout showcasing red raspberries and it's stout-like features. I didn't get so much red wine barrel but honestly, given that I am not that into wine, I didn't mind.
