smell is gaggingly sweet, but the taste is not so much... still sweet, still a little hard to get into after a few really good IPAs although i had been looking forward to this for awhile. not bad, overall.... decent 'brown' characteristics....

A: Lightly sweet, moderate caramel and toasted malt aroma.
A: Deep brown, with a light amberish hue, super hazy with a moderate white head that quickly recedes to a thin film.
T: Lots of chocolate, caramel, almost brown sugar like notes. There is a moderately-low bitterness on the finish with almost no perceivable hop presence and a slightly dry finish.
M: Medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation.
O: Quite tasty and a pretty good representation of an English brown ale⦠though it tasted much more like a southern English brown, rather than a northern English brown, as I got very little nuttiness or hop flavors.

Brewer calls this a "Northern English style brown ale" and lists the malts as Maris Otter, Brown, Caramel 60, and Chocolate. Dark brownish color with some red-amber on the edges. Quite decent foam with some long-lasting lacing. Aroma of warm grain and caramel.
Taste is an intriguing mix of dark roasted flavors. Some warm malt, a grainy rye sort of flavor, and a little of the scorched taste. Not much hop flavor, in keeping with the English style. IBUs are rated at 29 and there is a distinct bitterness for the aftertaste that doesn't detract from the mellow gulpability. A touch of filberts and some dark toast.
Really a delicious Brown Ale with a sudsy mouthfeel and a refreshing taste overall. From the 32 oz jug purchased at the brewery in Temecula.

On tap at Wiens Brewing Company in Temecula, CA.
Pours a clear copper with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, and bread-like aromas. Taste is much the same with caramel flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with some solid aromas and flavors.
