June 6th, 2015 - It was a late night at Waypoint in San Diego and I wanted something light and refreshing. This brought me to Wiens Honey Wheat, which as a wheat goes, mostly hits the mark after an evening of walking around with friends and eating burritos. It's fairly average - a lighter gold color with a soft cereal nose and just a touch of sweetness from that honey. And the flavor is much of the same. Innocuous and inoffensive, it's a pretty general honey wheat.

Very attractive clear amber brew with plenty of white foam in the Crooked Line tulip. Beery scent with maybe a hint of honey. Not overly carbonated but a little sharp, which is actually nice with the honey going on. Light body, though more substantial than typical pale wheat brews.
The honey flavor is just bold enough. It's made with avocado honey, according to the brewer, a Southern California staple. Pleasantly malty with a slight sweet note, but mostly it's the touch of honey followed by some light resiny hops.
One of the better flavored American wheat brews I've had, and another clean and tasty brew from Wiens. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at the brewery taproom in Temecula.

On tap at Wiens Brewing Company in Temecula, CA.
Pours a murky yellow with a foamy white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, wheat, and slight honey aromas. Taste is much the same with honey and grassy flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but it has a better taste over smell in my opinion.
