Single Hop Pale Ale - Sorachi Ace
5.4% ABV 40 IBU
On Tap at the Brewery – Temecula, CA
Notes from 08/18/13 - 4oz taster
A: Well conditioned light golden caramel color body. Very opaque with streaming bubbles present and a nice finger full of soapy white suds. Good hang time on this one with a mess of sheeted lacing that runs the glass from top to bottom.
S: Malt forward aromas of lightly toasted grains, bread, and some caramel like sweetness. Some minor earthy minerals and a dash of citrus. Nothing to really indicate Sorachi Ace hops are being utilized here. Kind of strange to me.
T: Very mild malt flavors of lightly toasted cereals, bread, and some caramel sweetness. Not much unlike a Lager here. There is a mild bitterness to the beer but no real discernible hop qualities. A little spice, earth, and lemon peel mixed together but that is reaching a bit even for me. The alcohol never really reveals itself in flavor and in that aspect its got some fair balance and drinkable qualities. Forgettable in my opinion though.
M: Very light in body with a clean frothy texture and light drying in the finish. Ends up a bit on the wetter side. Not all that resinous or lingering.
D: This one didn’t stand out at all. Very mild and muted aroma as well as flavor. I would not have known what hop was even used if not clearly labeled Single series – Sorachi Ace. With that in regard this one is a bit of a fail for me.
