Part of a flight of 5, samples in 1/3 pint glasses.
It seems always a challenge for the gluten-free process to compete in a standard style. But the process is getting better and the micros are more masterful. So in the hands of Howling Hops, this is a damn good Dortmunder.
Howling's rendition Looks great, nice tight bubbles and a blanket foam that sticks around. Smells are more modest, mostly sweet malt. Tastes are well-balanced with hops gradually asserting themselves. Crisp finish that is also full-mouthed and soft.
As for giving excellent Overall Hugs, that's for Howling Hops and the great job they have done in updating the English kitchen and brewing for the 21st Century. Cosmopolitan and well-rounded.
