Although our base Helles Bock was designed simply to pick up notes of whiskey during a rest in oak barrels, our staff just kept going back to the zwickel for after shift beers. They were drawn to the clean malt notes and fruity/boozy mouthfeel. We ordered fewer oak barrels for Beer for Burgers assuming they had drank several barrels of beer. Turns out they drank much less than we thought so we had this extra helles bock left over and we thought we'd share our little slice of hell with you.

From the 16 oz can in a snifter. This excellent helles pours a medium
hazed pale amber tinged golden color with a moderate head of white
foam that settles to a thin ring, thin clumping layer, and sports some
nice lacing. Nose of caramel malts, light breaded malts, subtle peach
nuances, and light herbal hops. Flavors present a solid representation
of the style with light caramel and toasted malts, light breaded malts,
subtle bread crust, and light balanced herbal hops dashed with
under-ripen peaches. Mouth feel is medium, medium light
carbonation, smooth, and finishing moderately dry.
Overall, a solid helles!
Cheers

16 oz can into a goblet. Slightly hazy amber color with a small and short-lived white head. Faint doughy malt and honey aroma. Toasty, grainy malty sweet flavor with some faint ripe fruitiness. Medium-full, chewy mouthfeel.

Slightly cloudy golden color with a white head. Aroma is bread and honey. Taste is similar but the sweetness really comes through in the finish. There's a very slight fruitiness as well. Body is medium. Nothing mind-blowing but a solid beer I will buy again.

Released 5/4/23; drank 6/24/23 @ the Yarchives.
See-through golden appearance.
A rough pour yielded a HUGE off-white head (careful pouring!); almost no lace.
Honeyed wheat bread notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Honeyed wheat bread flavors.
Simple, sure, but quite tasty. I'd have another!

Much like the beer for pizza this one takes you typical helles bock and add some strange bittering hops. While not bad I guess I expected a touch more sweetness like the style has but it's still pretty easy to crush but still strange

Medium amber body with dense carbonation; thick, frothy head, white and semi-creamy, sticky. Very pleasant toasted malt nose; a bit of earthy spiciness. Semi-sweet toasted grain flavor with a moderate sense of hop bitterness; a modest suggestion of earthy spiciness; a touch of fruity esters; oak. Medium body; moderate carbonation effervescence tickles the palate; a bit of residual sugar stickiness.
This helles bock brings a rock-solid malt base flavor to things with a nifty twist of hop bitterness to the palate.

Poured into my tall Becher.
L -- Lightly hazy, pale gold with a white head that settles to a decent cap, leaving minimal lacing.
S -- Light, herbal hops; some light DMS; a touch doughy, but no big malt notes.
T -- Herbal hops and DMS up front, light bready malts fighting for recognition, lightly spicy and lightly bitter hops in the finish and aftertaste with some mild citrus in the aftertaste.
F -- Mouthfeel is soft and chewy -- telling us malts are definitely present, body is medium-light to medium.
O -- While not unpleasant to my palate, I think the strong vegetal DMS in the flavor overpowers any good malt character in the beer... it makes a strong showing in the aftertaste and adding body to the beer -- but that veg character is more prominent. Drinkable, but not a go-to Maibock for me.

I could drink this again.
I've now drank all but one of Off Color's ever-extending series of Beers for ______.
Amazingly for a brewer, Off Color has not beat the joke to death. Their concepts are still funny, their cans are still cute and the beers are still well-crafted. While Off Color may have missed their calling as stand-up comedians, I'm glad they did.
8/18/22 Drank alongside of its brother (Beer for Burgers, a Helles Bock aged in Bourbon Barrels.) And I saw quickly that they were brews from the same parents. Burgers is stronger slightly and smoother. But Hell reminds us that stronger lagers are, well, tempting.
Curiously and Big Picture... Off Color may be the only brewer whose ales I adore (5 cases of Apex as a start), yet whose lagers I also return to often. but let me think about that, before I expound too much.
