I was waiting for this wit and finally grabbed it at Mousetrap before it gets into distribution. Glad to be the first review.
Best part: wonderfully soft... like a soothing bath.
Second best: relaxing... like why we take baths when we take the time.
Area that needs work: citrus dominates the after-Taste. The strong lemon does not help get this ale to the table... but then, it is designed for bathtubs.
Beer for Bathtubs opens Looking like a better than average wit: huge head and sufficient foam, but neither lasts. Smells are better, introducing an ample array of citrus blossoms. But that cuts both ways as the Taste has too much lemon and overpowers the orange (at least how the wit is traditionally brewed.) In the finish, the lemon doesn't leave me smiling. Yet the mouth is wonderfully soft, relaxing; like the chamomile listed as one of the botanicals. And while I can sense salt, I cannot sense the Epsom Salts in Bathtubs; but the relaxing qualities tell me that Epsom is in there. (Or is Epsom Salts just another Off Color joke that I should not have taken literally?)
Regardless of mine or your humor differential with Off Color's brewers, go get Beer for Bathtubs at your earliest opportunity. I'm surprised this is only Off Color's fourth wit, given how accomplished they are in the Belgian tradition, particularly saisons. I've had all four wits. Bathtubs, for now, is #2.
And as a personal milestone, I now have rated more wits on BA than AIPAs. Who among you can claim that ?
6/29/21 Had the second can of the 4-pack as a bridge between a humid summer day and dinner. It worked: quenched my thirst, restored my liquids and lost salt, and even was good enough with appetizers that also were salty (olives, feta, sun-dried tomatoes.) Edited the above review, I'm satisfied and am keeping count over at UnTappd.
