Buy Butchers while you can, along with Beer from Hell. Drink them side by side.
Shoot me a critique (emails get a response) of my review.
I'm guessing this is nearly the same 6.2 ABV recipe as Beer for Hell that BA styles as a Maibock. Hell has a simpler malt bill as Butchers adds Vienna. They both have the same hops and, I presume, similar proportions... tastes that way to me, the malt-head. (In case there is a style merger, please note that UnTappd styles Butchers as an American Lager... and has a whooping 4.17 average of 66 ratings. I'm less impressed, although I am impressed.)
Bourbon Barrel Aging for a Lager. Now that's an interesting brewing concept, but not a new one. I've had a BA lager from Off Color and it's called Beer for Burgers of which Butchers is most certainly the same recipe... but with a different barrel. Based on memory, the major evolution between the two releases is that Burgers has a better can than Butchers.
But back to today's side-by-side... Butchers still compares well with Hell. While Butchers is darker and fuller, Hell was better with my veggie burger.
That said, I'll let the next BA-er review Butchers.
