As the foliage color fades and the grunts of late summer two-a-days subside, our thirst also transitions into the warm coziness of richer flavors. Sub in Beer for Huddles. Tree resin amber in color and aromas of warm biscuits, this traditional amber drives deeper into Flavortown with pan browned pie crust overtones as well as hints of rose incense and early autumn dried leaves. If you get your third down you may just want to go for it on the fourth.

A cloudy amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is faintly caramel. Taste is caramel, bread, and a hint of clove with a bit of hops in the finish. Body is light and crisp. I rarely like ambers very much but I would drink this again.

Aroma is nutty malts, fruit and a big hint of toffee sweetness. The flavor is very nutty malts, caramel and a medium sweet toffee/mostly smooth finish.

12/7/24 - (Can - Home) (Chicago, IL) Can Notes: Purchased a single can, though they failed to scan, on November 27, 2024 at Beer on the Wall Park Ridge. Purchased at store temperature, refrigerated at home until this morning. 16 oz, no can date, released in mid-August per social media. Amber Ale, 5.2% ABV. Malts: Victory, Pale Ale, Munich, Caramel, Roasted Barley. Hops: Zuper Saazer. Secret Techique: Unsportsmanlike Conduct. Session, traditional. Brewed & Canned by Off Color Brewing, Chicago, Illinois.
Appearance: Poured 1/2 and then topped off at 2/3 of the can into a shaker pint glass. Very creamy generous white head lingers a few munutes before leaving clumpy lacing and a nice creamy cover over the slightly murky bronze tan base. Nominal carbonation visible after the initial pour. 3.75
Aroma: Caramel malt and clove the top two leads, really overpowering everything else. It's OK, but too much unexpected clove aromas here. 3.25
Taste: Much broader and more enjoyable than the clove dominating aroma. Caramel and clove are on equal footing, backed nicely by citrus and rye. Not sure how age played a factor here, but this is good likely nearing four months from canning. Enjoying, broader depth as this warms. 4.0
Mouthfeel: Sweet overall, but within style guidelines. Drinks light and easy, a bit dry, medium carbonation and body. Caramel, rye, finish . 4.0
Overall: Beyond the clove aroma, this is an expectedly good selection from Off Color, who doesn't always draw within the lines. Liking the balanced treatment here, the unexpected clove makes this somewhat of a Belgan offering if this was a blind tasting. Digging the rye aspect, as I am a rye whore. Well done. 3.75

16 oz can into a pint glass.
A: Slightly hazy reddish-orange color with a short-lived off-white head.
S: Rye spice, orange citrus, faint clove.
T: Orange and slight mango citrus with some buttery popcorn diacetyl. Not especially pleasant.
F: Medium, creamy body.

OCB's Beer For ___ line has 26 brews, I've now drank all of them. Huddles is one of the few I would not repeat.
On tap at The Mousetrap, this red Looked only slightly above average. Served too cold for me, mostly malt aromas were muted. I got some interesting flavors: citrusy and cidery and some spice (probably from rye) in the malt. Mouthfeel was a middling medium.
With 120 brews I've had from them, OCB is entitled to one average beer. Cheers !

Canned 10/3/23; drank 10/18/23 @ the Yarchives.
Cloudy orange/brown appearance.
A rough pour yielded a big eggshell-colored head; decent lacing remained.
Orange peel, rye & faint cream notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Rye & apple cider flavors up front; orange peel & faint banana notes on the finish.
Almost funky / saison-y; not really my jam but it's drinkable.
